FREEPORT, Bahamas – Darts enthusiasts from around the country converged on Grand Bahama last weekend, for the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) sponsored Bahamas Darts Federation Cup Tournament 2018. Held at the Grand Bahama Taxi Union Building, the event set the stage for two days of friendly but fierce competition.

“BTC is all about supporting events which encourage teamwork and a sense of camaraderie, so coming on board as the major sponsor for this year’s darts tournament was an easy choice,” explained Tenecia Wood, GB BTC Manager of Customer Experience. “The game of darts has a long and rich history dating back to our connection to the British expat community, and I’ve been consistently impressed with the level of skill these players possess.”

With eyes firmly fixed on the bullseye, teams from Abaco, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama and New Providence took aim at the grand prize which included a trophy and a year’s worth of bragging rights. The Annual event was hosted by the executive team of the Grand Bahama Darts Association (GBDA) headed by Aniska Maycock, who made Bahamas darts history in 2013 by being elected the first female President of the GBDA and repeating the same feat in 2018.

“Aniska is not just a phenomenal darts player but she is a phenomenal member of team BTC, serving as a Senior Associate in our Technical Division,” said VP of Customer Experience Eldri Ferguson-Mackey. “She has proven herself, a force to be reckoned with and she makes us very proud”.

After two days of intense competition, it was the Abaco team who walked away victorious, followed by the Nassau team and GB rounded out the top three. “The caliber of the players were very strong and we know Abaco is celebrating their win,” said Maycock. Now we all have to get back to work, there’s next year to prepare for and win that trophy back.”
